Kiven Alla: A feared big bill turned into a few hours of work

I was afraid of being handed a big bill for a software update. The Curious team pushed it through in just a few hours, agent-assisted, all the way from code to the App Store and Play Store.

Harri Hirvasniemi, Kiven Alla Oy

I am Harri Hirvasniemi, CEO of Kiven Alla Oy. At Kiven Alla we run an online shop for geocaching gear and organise geocaching experiences and virtual adventures for companies, schools and cities. We deliver our geocaching experiences with the Go|Cache mobile app, which lets participants find both physical geocaches and virtual targets using their smartphone's map and location data. The app is available on both iPhone and Android.

Where we started: A necessary update and worry about cost

Go|Cache is the heart of our geocaching experiences. It enables everything from a city building a digital sports or culture trail for residents, to corporate well-being days and supporting school lessons. When the app needed an update, including refreshing dependency libraries and the Android target version plus a few improvements that had been waiting in the queue, I knew the work could not be put off. The mobile world does not wait.

At the same time, I admit I was a bit nervous. We are a small company, and with traditional mobile development this kind of update could have meant several days, or even weeks, of work. I was afraid of being handed a big bill. We reached out to Curious because I had heard about how they work with the help of AI agents.

Delivery: From change to app store in a few hours

The outcome surprised me completely. The Curious team pushed the update through in a few hours, and not just the code changes but the entire chain all the way to delivery to the App Store and Play Store. The same work I had braced myself for as a longer project was finished within an afternoon and available for users to download.

This was made possible by using AI agents in the development work. The agents handled a large share of the routine work: dependency updates, build configuration checks, testing, and preparing the release process. Curious's experienced developers could focus on what matters most and make sure the outcome was high quality and worked. When humans and machines work together the right way, the result is something quite different from what I had been used to.

Concrete outcomes: a new level of value for money

The biggest change for me was understanding what mobile development can be these days. The update I had feared on cost grounds turned out, in the end, to be a fraction of what I had expected. The bill was very modest relative to what I got: a working, up-to-date app in both app stores, without stretched timelines or surprise charges.

For a small company this matters a lot. We can now update and develop Go|Cache nimbly, rather than every release cycle being a big financial decision. That frees me up to focus on what I do best: designing great geocaching experiences and serving our customers.

A leader's view: Confidence in what's ahead

For me, Curious was above all the right partner at the right time. I got concrete proof that in the age of AI agents, even a small company does not have to choose desperately between a necessary update and the cost. Well-done work can be fast and affordable at the same time.

The collaboration was straightforward and honest. I asked for help, I got a clear answer, and the work was finished as agreed. A partner like this gives peace of mind that Go|Cache will remain working and up to date, and the need for an update is no longer something to be feared.
